DASL Process Made “Easy”

Each year, the AIMS member schools complete the annual statistics collection process. Since 2017, this information has been submitted using the NAIS/DASL online survey tool.  Outlined below are a few easy steps to help you prepare for this process at your school.

Step one:  PLANNING the HOW and WHO.                                                                            How will the data collection process be handled at your school and who are the responsible parties?

  • This step will allow communication from NAIS and AIMS to be funneled to the appropriate staff at your school who are completing the DASL collection process.
  • NAIS handles the permissions for logins to the DASL collection site. Take some time to review the NAIS/DASL user list sent to your school and provide AIMS with updates to this list as soon as possible (AIMS will send an edited list to NAIS at the end of July and again in mid-August).

Step two:  START the data entry process early!                                                                  General DASL data or data collected from previous year information can be entered during the summer, while data that needs final fall numbers can be entered in September/October.  Starting the DASL process in the summer allows time to review the core questions, data definitions, any new data elements, training videos and “how-to” guides.

  • DASL data entry process for 2019 opened on June 12, 2019.
  • Data entry closes on October 9, 2019 and “scrubbing” of the data begins.
  • New data is released for reporting needs on November 6, 2019.
  • Data entry procedures are available at the NAIS/DASL website and on the AIMS website

Step three:  REVIEW data carefully to ensure all data elements are completed!

100% participation of all AIMS schools and data completion/integrity will provide robust and useful reports for individual AIMS schools and the AIMS community as a whole!

  • Monitor the process of the data collection of each segment using the tools on the DASL site.
  • Take the time in October to review and “scrub” the data for completion and accuracy.
