Ten years ago, Science Leadership Academy opened its doors in Philadelphia with a mission: to bring inquiry and project-based learning to any and all students who wanted it, and to do it with the first 1:1 laptop program in their city. The results of their program have gone beyond their greatest expectations. This workshop will walk participants through the process transforming a current unit through SLA's model. Teachers with all levels of experience with PBL and technology integration are welcome. Participants will walk away with a complete kit of unit materials they have built themselves: outline of a unit plan, project write-up, and grading rubric. Applicable Grades: 6-12. Lunch is included.
Presenters: Brad Latimer and Larissa Pahomov, Science Leadership Academy
Larissa Pahomov and Brad Latimer teach students at Science Leadership Academy. Pahomov is also the author of "Authentic Learning in the Digital Age," a handbook for teachers that describes the learning model of her school and how to implement it on a classroom or school-wide level.
