A Guided Discussion for Small School Heads and Board Chairs

This will be a two-part workshop (May 21st and May 28th) designed for Heads and Board Chair pairs.

Over the past two months, school leaders and board members have had to make critical decisions that have had a significant impact on their students, families, and faculty & staff. We have seen tremendous creativity, thoughtfulness, and courage reflected in the decisions that have been made. And there are more critical decisions that will need to be made as we look toward bringing people back into our school buildings- sometime in the coming months. Leaders and Board members of small schools will have unique issues to confront as they navigate re-entry and also have unique strengths to build upon.

Join us for a structured dialog between Heads of Schools and Board Chairs where we outline:

·         A framework for identifying where your school is in overall fiscal health.

·         A framework for identifying where your school is regarding recovery from emergency/at-home

              learning orders.

·         An overview of the conditions for making effective decisions.

·         A list of technical questions for you to consider.

·         A consideration of how the decisions you make will impact equity and inclusion school-wide.

·         A list of adaptive/innovation questions for you to consider.

We will outline how small school leaders can conceptualize and operationalize the decisions they will need to make as they plan to re-engage in-person and will offer time for leadership pairs to discuss how they can structure their decisions to enable their school to thrive. The initial session will focus on information sharing and leadership pair planning and the second session will enable Heads and Board Chairs to collaborate with one another to share thinking and strategies.
