This hands-on workshop is designed for high school science teachers new to the teaching profession and will help develop skills for designing lab work for their students. This program is being held in conjunction with Goucher College and will take into account various topics around working in the lab.

This workshop, run in conjunction with Goucher College, is aimed at high school science teachers who are new to the teaching profession.  The candidates may have limited or extensive experience of science outside the classroom, but this hands-on workshop will help develop skills in devising suitable lab work for high school students. 

 

The four hour workshop will also discuss the purpose behind lab practical work, lab safety practices, safe chemical management, and disposal. Dinner will be included.

 

Tentative Agenda

 

4:30 pm     Welcome and Light Dinner

5:00 pm     Opening Presentation

5:25 pm     Educational Value of Practical Work in School

6:15 pm     Practicing Different Investigations and Demonstrations

7:50 pm     Investigating the Educational Value of Problem Solving Tasks

8:20 pm     Working Safely in the Lab with Students

9:00 pm     Wrap-up and Conclusion

 


AIMS Members: $60 (through January 15th) or $70 (After January 15th)
NON AIMS Members: $120 (through January 15th) or $130 (After January 15th)
