This year, the keynote speaker on day one of the IT, Cybersecurity and Campus Security Conference will be Loren Mahler.  She will be speaking about Preserving Trust through Effective Crisis Communications Planning.  

 

As a complement to the conference, we are offering a special one day program for Communications/Marketing professionals ONLY around the topic of crisis communication.  

 

In any crisis situation, it’s easy to be quickly overwhelmed by the influx of questions and demands for information coming at you from all sides. How you communicate in that moment will have a significant impact on the overall outcome of the situation, and having a good crisis communications plan in place can give you the information and guidance that you need to confidently move in the right direction. 

 

This session will take a deep dive into the basic elements of a good crisis communications plan, including the four questions you’ll have to answer in any crisis situation and a simple framework you can use to start answering them now. 

 

We’ll break into working groups and apply this framework to hypothetical, real-world situations with interactive presentations and peer feedback throughout the process. (Yes, even crisis comms can be fun!) This role playing exercise will highlight specific ways you can improve your own crisis communications plans and better maintain control of your next crisis situation.

Loren Dealy Mahler is a seasoned strategic leader with high-level government and private sector experience across national security, strategic communications and crisis management.

 

From the White House to corporate America, Loren has helped clients leverage effective communications strategies to further business and policy objectives, while mitigating brand impact through effective response planning and crisis event management. 

Loren also helped Fortune 500 companies and national nonprofits grow and protect their organizations, as Vice President of Corporate Communications for a PR firm in New York.

 

Loren is a graduate of Princeton University and the McCourt School at Georgetown University. She currently serves on the Board of Advisors for the Cybersecurity program at Rutgers University and on the Advisory Board for the Cyber Security Summit in Minneapolis, MN. She is the author of the “Communications War Room” blog at csoonline.com, and frequently speaks at industry events around the country.
