Brooke Carroll and Jen Cort bring their highly acclaimed leadership program to AIMS.  This program is designed for department chairs, athletic directors and division heads who often rise to leadership positions because they are good at their craft: education. However, they do not always possess all of the skills needed to manage groups of people. By understanding how and why people act in systems and learning practical strategies for developing positive teams, managers will be more effective and will feel more confident working with and supervising others.

This leadership series for new and emerging middle-level managers, (department heads, grade-level, deans, and more) will facilitate growth in middle-level educational managers’ skills and abilities in managing their work, managing the people they supervise, and managing themselves.  Participants can sign-up for one or more two and a half hour sessions.

Through this course, educational leaders will:

  • Understand the importance of their position in connecting the school community holistically, using a systems-based perspective

  • Enhance specific people-leadership skills (i.e. listening, assertiveness, negotiation)

  • Develop a process for responding to challenging behaviors in others

  • Learn strategies for successful hiring and support of teachers

  • Feel more confident making and carrying out decisions

The format of this course will include information sharing by the facilitators, group conversation, case studies, and role plays. There will be limited readings and tasks assigned between in-person sessions. Participants will leave each session with practical tools and strategies for enhancing their supervision, support, and management skills and abilities.

Challenging Conversations (May session) focus will be:

  • Challenging Conversations

  • Connections to equity, diversity, inclusion and justice
