Understanding the Nontraditional Learner: Assessment and Recommendations for the Independent School Setting

This seminar will focus on discussing the various elements of psycho-educational testing procedures and the application of recommendations for the school setting. We will also focus on providing information on some more unique learning challenges that school personnel are sometimes less familiar with, such as understanding nonverbal learning disorder (NLD) and how processing speed deficits impact academic functioning.

• What kinds of testing are available to admissions officers and to school counselors?
• What kinds of testing are appropriate to particular circumstances or to particular student profiles?
• What is a psycho-educational evaluation? What can such an evaluation show?
• What kinds of sub-tests are included?
• How does one read the results of a psycho-educational evaluation, and how can those results be useful in the admissions process, or in the advising process?
• What other kinds of tests or assessments might be relevant?
• How does one go about initiating the testing process, and what kinds of fees are involved?

AIMS Members: $10 (through November 17th) or $20 (After November 17th)
