The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) require the following eight women’s preventive services to be covered at 100% effective as of the first plan renewal date following August 1, 2012.

  1. Well-woman visits, including preconception counseling and prenatal visits

  2. FDA-approved contraception methods and contraceptive counseling (HRSA guidelines exempt religious purchasers who meet certain requirements from covering contraceptive methods and counseling.)

  3. Breastfeeding support, supplies, and counseling

  4. Screening for gestational diabetes

  5. Domestic violence screening and counseling

  6. Human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA testing for women 30 years and older

  7. Sexually-transmitted infection counseling

  8. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) screening and counseling

Carrier compliance action schedule:

United Healthcare will begin 100 percent coverage of contraceptives on Tier 1, or the lowest-cost tier, of our Prescription Drug Lists beginning August 1, 2012. All other services will be covered at 100% effective January 1, 2013

Kaiser will begin 100 percent coverage of contraceptives on our next contract renewal after August 1, 2012. Therefore, Kaiser will begin 100% coverage of contraceptive effective January 1, 2013.

EBS is still exploring plan options for schools that might qualify as a religious organization under both federal and state legislation. Please see attached for more information on this subject. If you believe you might qualify as a religious organization and you would like to exclude coverage for contraceptives, please call us for additional information.
