AIMS/ Johns Hopkins Leadership Training Program
AIMS and Johns Hopkins have collaborated to develop a course of study that provides students with skills and information in those areas of school operation that are now essential to successful independent school leadership: Governance, Communications and Marketing, Finance, Curriculum, and Professional Development and Supervision. The program is completed in approximately fifteen months, classes meet after school hours, and the courses are specifically designed to meet the needs of AIMS schools. Learn More
Journal of the Association of Maryland & DC Schools
The Journal of the Association of Independent Maryland & DC Schools (JAIMS) is a digital publication and online forum focused on teaching and learning at all grade levels in independent schools. The Journal publishes bi-annually peer-reviewed articles across a wide range of interests: scholarly articles, reports about action research, reflective pieces about classroom experiences, book reviews, and exemplary lesson plans. The Journal also hosts online exchanges and networking among independent school educators through comments on published pieces and online learning communities focused on particular areas of practice. The Journal thus serves a dual purpose: to celebrate the extraordinary work of educators at independent schools and to foster their further professional growth and development through a vibrant ongoing exchange of ideas about teaching and learning. Support for Diversity
No aspect of the AIMS mission is more important than its effort to help member schools sustain diverse communities and cultures. By any measure, the commitment of AIMS schools to many kinds of diversity runs deep: For the 2010-2011 academic year, people of color represented 27.4% of students, 14.4% of teachers, 11.6% of administrators, and 12.5% of trustees. Schools are also committed to socio-economic diversity: 24% of students in AIMS schools are awarded financial assistance, totaling approximately $114,000,000. Diversity in AIMS schools includes a strong commitment to students with diverse learning styles and aptitudes. Learn More.
