Discover how the Maryland Historical Society's new Historical Investigations Portal (HIP) and Virtual Field Trips can build students' literacy and historical thinking skills while strengthening social studies content knowledge. Teachers will discuss how to engage students of all grades in primary source-based historical investigations before trying HIP, a series of online lessons for students and ready-to-use primary sources for teachers. Teachers will also see how interactive distance learning can bring the resources and expertise of a museum to the classroom. Please bring a laptop with you to this program. Applicable Grades: K-8.
Presenter: Jennifer Frieman, Maryland Historical Society
Jennifer Frieman is a history educator with 18 years’ experience managing school programs at museums and developing K-12 curriculum. With and M.A. in History, Ms. Frieman has managed a 4-year Teaching American History professional development program for Baltimore City Public Schools and served as a Social Studies Literacy Specialist for the Maryland State Department of Education.
