Crisis Communications Boot Camp
Join us for a day of crisis management and how to communicate when a crisis hits your school. This boot camp will take participants through how to plan in advance of a crisis, and the most important steps to take in the first 48 hours. Crisis plan basics, including what every plan should have, will be discussed and participants will receive plan templates. Communicating in a crisis can be challenging and The Jane Group will share proven strategies to help you get it right when communicating to your constituencies. The day will wrap up with case studies based on actual school crises. The boot camp is geared to heads of school, crisis teams and anyone who has crisis responsibilities. Schools are encouraged to send teams of two or more who share crisis communications responsibilities.
Jane Hulbert, founder of The Jane Group, has been the NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools) crisis communications consultant since 2002. She counsels independent, international, for profit and charter schools on crisis and reputation management issues, crisis preparation and planning, messaging, media management, and spokesperson training. Jane and partner Jim advise boards on their role in a crisis, and they conduct board retreats. The Jane Group works with schools that are not in crisis, to prepare them for the possibility through media and crisis training. Her firm has handled hundreds of issues that have impacted schools, including safety issues, arrests of teachers, sudden departure of the head of school, high-profile lawsuits, and many other difficult and sensitive situations. Prior to The Jane Group, Jane was a communications executive with McDonald’s Corporation. She ran the crisis and media relations department and handled crises around the world, including the infamous hot coffee matter. Jane is a graduate of the Park Tudor School (IN) and a cum laude graduate of Boston University.
