Makerspaces are open workshop environments in which students can experiment, discover, and create while working with a variety of tools and materials. In this workshop, we'll discuss some of the nuts and bolts for preparing a makerspace, with suggestions for tools, setup, and support. Participants will have the chance to experiment with Arduino, MaKey MaKey, 3D design, introductory programming, and more with guidance from facilitators. Applicable Grades: 5-12.

Location Details: Howell Computer Lab. Parking available on Boxhill Lane. Walk down Melrose Avenue to the first left. Follow signs to Howell Computer Lab. A few spaces are available on Melrose Avenue.

Presenter: Emily Letras, The Bryn Mawr School

Emily Letras is the Upper School Technology Integrator and teacher at the The Bryn Mawr School. This year marks Emily's 8th year there, and each year she enjoys exploring new and cutting edge technologies with her students. Emily has taken her students to the World's Maker Faire in New York, coached her students in multiple 3D printing competitions in Baltimore, and set up a Makerspace play area - complete with a 3D printer at the AIMS Technology Retreat this past May.
